Frequently asked questions
The most common questions we get from our clients
Sunless spray tanning is the spray/mist application of sunless tanning solution to desired areas of your body. The active ingredient in our solution dihydroxyacetone, commonly referred to as DHA – which is the only FDA approved sunless tanning ingredient. DHA is a colorless sugar derived from beets. When applied, DHA reacts with the proteins and amino acids in the outer layer of your skin to produce a golden brown color – this is called the “Maillard Reaction”. Your skin begins to darken two to three hours after application and reaches its peak color within 24 hours. The color will gradually fade through natural exfoliation, just like a tan from the sun.
Average time is 7-10 days. The length of the tan is determined by the skin type and also how you take care of it. Dry skin and rubbing on the skin will shorten the life of the tan. As you lose the skin layer, you will lose your tan. This comes from showers and tight clothes. The more abrasive you are to your skin, the sooner you will lose your tan.
- Take Showers, instead of baths.
- Do not use a rag or a loofah, instead use your hand and a shower gel. Pat dry with a towel.
- Moisturize daily with water-based moisturizer and replenish with bronzers. We recommend Hempz or CeraVe. (Make sure lotions are not oil-based).
- We sell a great tan extending lotion that will extend your tan up to 3 – 5 days.
- All Sunscreens must be water-based & OIL FREE to prevent streaking. We recommend Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Spray sunscreen.
The spray tan contains a cosmetic bronzer that can rub off on clothes and sheets. Since it is water soluble, it generally washes out of everything. (You can use Spray & Wash or Shout just to be safe).
If you are not able to keep the spray tan solution on for at least 8 - 10 hours, we recommend the Rapid tan. The Rapid tan is a special formula that allows you to shower within 2-4 hours as recommended by your technician.
The Signature Tan is a formula left on the skin for 8 - 10 hours before showering. The Rapid Tan is a formula left on the skin for 2 - 4 hours before taking a “clear water” rinse; then take a normal shower the next day.
We suggest tanning 2-3 days prior to your event whenever possible. Both the Overnight and Rapid Tans take 24 hours to fully develop.
The active ingredient in airbrush tanning solution is DHA (dihydroxyacetone). The DHA reacts with your dead skin cell’s proteins, resulting in a bronzing effect. Therefore, as your skin goes through its natural exfoliation process, these dead skin cells shed. It is important to note that not every cell sheds at the same rate. You may have some “tanned” cells that remain or last longer than others. (The result of this is an appearance of dark spots that looks similar to freckles.) This has no correlation to your airbrush technician or the solution. Keep in mind that this process tends to be a bit more noticeable when you choose a shade that is significantly darker than your natural skin color. However, you can usually counteract this by moisturizing with our tan extending lotion.
Our solution has organic ingredients, it’s paraben-free, and it’s also Vegan!
A huge benefit of our airbrush tans versus a traditional spray tan booth, is the small amount of overspray produced. The solution goes directly on your body - instead of being encapsulated in a closed booth while you’re inhaling all the fumes that a machine is pumping in.
We use state-of-the-art spray tanning equipment that includes professional solution extraction filters which also reduce the amount of overspray that is created.
We offer personal protection to prevent overspray going into your mucus membranes- such as nose filters, and hair caps.
As with anything while pregnant, you should still consult with your doctor before getting a spray tan. Your comfort and safety are our top priorities!
